Description:
Saturn is the second largest planet in our solar system (after Jupiter) and is the sixth planet from the sun. It is a gas giant with a radius approximately 9.5 times that of earth. Saturn completes one orbit around the sun every 29.45 years.
Saturn is thought to have a rocky core surrounded by metallic hydrogen. Outside this, there is liquid hydrogen and helium and finally a gaseous outer layer. The yellowish color is due to ammonia crystals in the upper atmosphere.
The prominent ring system is composed primarily of ice particles with smaller amounts of rocky debris and dust. At least 146 moons orbit Saturn, plus hundreds more in the rings. It’s moon Titan is the only moon in the solar system known to have a substantial atmosphere.
